What Are Croatia's Hidden Culinary Gems in Los Angeles?

Post by Markus Novak »

I've recently heard about some hidden Croatian culinary spots in Los Angeles but I'm not sure where to start. Can anyone recommend some authentic Croatian restaurants or dishes that I should definitely try? Also, I've been looking for ways to enjoy Croatian cooking shows or food channels. Is there a good IPTV service for that?

Hello Markus!
It's great to see interest in Croatian cuisine here in Los Angeles! Croatia has a rich and diverse culinary tradition that offers a variety of delicious dishes. Here are some hidden gems you might want to check out:
  • Konoba Croatian Grill: Located in West Hollywood, this place offers an authentic atmosphere with dishes like Peka and fresh seafood.
  • Bačva: A cozy spot in Santa Monica known for its homemade sausages and traditional stews.
  • Restaurant Riva: A waterfront gem in Marina del Rey that serves fantastic Dalmatian-style dishes.
As for enjoying Croatian culinary content, I recommend checking out professional IPTV streaming services that focus on Croatian channels. This can provide you access to cooking shows and food programs that celebrate Croatian culture. Let me know if you have any more questions or need further recommendations!

Thanks for the tips, Admin! I've been to Konoba Croatian Grill before, and I loved their lamb Peka. Do you know if there are any Croatian bakeries in LA? I really miss the pastries from back home.

Hi Ana!
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the Peka at Konoba! For Croatian pastries, you should definitely check out:
  • Bakery Kolo: This place has a variety of traditional Croatian pastries, including kremšnite and strudel.
  • Sweet Spot Bakery: They offer a selection of Croatian desserts and are well-loved by the community.
These bakeries capture the essence of Croatian sweets, and I'm sure you'll feel right at home!

I second the recommendation for Bakary Kolo! Their kremšnite are to die for! On a different note, does anyone know about cooking classes in LA that focus on Croatian cuisine? I’d love to learn how to make some of these dishes myself.

Hi Luka!
It's wonderful that you want to dive deeper into Croatian cooking! There are a few places offering classes:
  • Culinary Institute of America: Occasionally offers classes focused on Mediterranean and Balkan cuisines.
  • Local Croatian Community Center: They sometimes host cooking workshops featuring traditional recipes, so keep an eye on their events page.
Taking part in these classes is a great way to connect with your heritage!

Thanks for all the recommendations! I’ve been meaning to try making čevapi at home. Does anyone have a good recipe to share or tips for grilling them?

Hello Mira!
Čevapi are a fantastic choice! Here’s a simple recipe to get you started:
  1. Ingredients: Ground beef, ground lamb, onion, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix: Combine all ingredients in a bowl and form into small sausages.
  3. Grill: Cook on a hot grill until browned on all sides.
Serve with somun and chopped onions for an authentic experience. Enjoy your cooking!

Does anyone know if there are any Croatian wine shops in LA? I would love to find some local Croatian wines to pair with these dishes.

Hi Petar!
Great question! Here are a couple of Croatian wine shops to check out:
  • Vino Croatia: They have a nice selection of Croatian wines and knowledgeable staff to help you find the perfect bottle.
  • Croatian Wine Bar: Offers tastings and sells a variety of wines from different regions in Croatia.
These should give you a good starting point for pairing wines with your meals!
