What Are the Must-Try Kenyan Street Foods in Los Angeles?

Post by James Ochieng »

I've recently moved to Los Angeles from Kenya, and I'm craving some authentic Kenyan street food. What are the best places in LA to find dishes like samosas, ugali, and nyama choma? Any recommendations for food trucks or restaurants that serve these?

Hello James,
Welcome to the Los Angeles Food Community! It's great to have someone from Kenya here. When it comes to Kenyan street food, Los Angeles has some hidden gems you should definitely check out. Here are a few recommendations:
  • Samosas: You can find excellent samosas at Jambo Cafe. They serve them with a variety of fillings that are sure to satisfy.
  • Ugali: Try Safari Restaurant for some authentic ugali. They have a cozy atmosphere and serve traditional dishes.
  • Nyama Choma: For grilled meat, Kenya’s Best BBQ is a must. Their nyama choma is well-seasoned and grilled to perfection.

As for enjoying Kenyan content while you're here, I recommend checking out a premium IPTV provider. They offer a wide range of Kenyan channels that can bring a taste of home to your living room. Enjoy your culinary exploration!

Hi James! I totally understand your craving for Kenyan food. Besides the places Admin_Kenya mentioned, I also love Kenyan Kitchen in Inglewood. Their chapatis are fantastic, and they serve a great variety of dishes. Plus, they often have events where you can enjoy live music while you eat!

If you're into street food, don't miss out on the food trucks that pop up around LA! Food Truck Fridays at various locations often feature vendors selling Kenyan dishes. It's a great way to try different foods in one evening.

I just wanted to add that the East African Market in Culver City has a great selection of ingredients if you want to cook some of your favorite dishes at home. They also have a small café that serves some street food options.

I forgot to mention, if you want to learn how to make some of these dishes, consider joining a cooking class! There are a few local chefs who offer classes on Kenyan cuisine, and it's a fun way to meet people too.
